Trama
Middlesex, Virginia, ottobre 1988. Donnie Darko è un adolescente intelligente e inquieto, afflitto da visioni e sonnambulismo. Una notte un coniglio gigante di nome Frank gli annuncia la fine del mondo: mancano 28 giorni, 6 ore, 42 minuti e 12 secondi. Quella stessa notte un motore di aereo cade sulla sua camera, e solo il fatto di essere uscito lo salva. Mentre cerca di capire il significato delle visioni, Donnie si innamora di Gretchen, nuova in città con un passato difficile. Con l'aiuto di una sua insegnante e di un'anziana scrittrice, Donnie esplora i viaggi nel tempo, il libero arbitrio e il destino, fino a una scelta finale che rimette in ordine tutto ciò che era andato storto.
